High Resolution HandHeld Portable Recorder

The PCM-D100 is a high resolution recorder with two-position (X-Y or Wide) stereo microphones, 32 GB of internal flash memory and a SD-XC Card slot. Recording formats include linear PCM (at 192, 176.4, 96, 88.2, 48 and 44.1kHz); DSD (2.8224 MHz) and MP3 (320 and 128 kbps). Additional playback support is provided for FLAC, WMA and AAC files. The D100 is constructed of lightweight metal (aluminium) and its rugged built quality will withstand the demands of pro applications, plus it offers long battery life using conventional AA alkaline batteries. The recorder includes a USB high-speed port for simple uploading/downloading to/from Windows PC or Macintosh computers. Other PCM-D100 features include digital pitch control, dual path digital limiter, low-cut filter, Super Bit Mapping and A-B repeat capability.

Sony’s PCM-D100 audio recorder is designed to deliver the highest sound quality in professional audio applications including live music events, theatrical performances, and news gathering. The recorder supports the latest high-resolution codecs and formats, including 192kHz/24bit PCM and DSD.

Compatibility with the DSD format enables the recording of source sounds using digital signals, but in a format that closely resembles analogue waveforms. Compatible with recording and playback in 192 kHz/24-bit linear PCM, the unit can reproduce ultra-high range, delicate music components with excellent audio quality from low to high range. Its broad playback frequency band easily exceeds the audible band of 20 Hz to 25 kHz.

A highly sensitive directional microphone uses a new 15 mm unidirectional mic unit. The mic’s sound collection range adjusts to suit various sounds, from performances with a small number of people to concert halls with a large group of performers. The highly sensitive, broadband recording functionality expresses frequency properties up to 40 kHz, to maximize the advantages of DSD recording.

The PCM-D100 recorder has 32 GB of built-in flash memory and a combination SD Card/Memory Stick slot for expandable storage. The recorder’s lightweight metal aluminium body is built to withstand the demands of professional applications and offers long battery life via four AA batteries (up to approximately 11 hours in DSD (2.8 MHz/1-bit).

FEATURES

Crystal-Clear Sound

Prepare to be knocked out by the frequency response and overall sound quality made possible by this little recorder’s high-resolution audio. The PCM-D100’s strengths all start with this superior sound capability.

Adjustable Mics

When you’re close to the sound source, adjust the PCM-D100’s larger stereo microphones to 90° for a natural stereo image with depth. For orchestras and other recordings in larger venues, set the two mics at 120° for realistic rich sounds with a feeling of broad openness.

Anti-Distortion Design

This portable recorder’s digital limiter prevents sounds distortion, even in cases of excessive input, by automatically adjusting to the optimal level within the buffer range of -12dB.

Minimal Internal Noise

Internal noise is almost eliminated during AD conversions because of the digital limiter mechanism. Noise is minimized for soft sounds while maintaining the same amplitude as the source sound - sometimes achieving a S/N ratio up to 100dB.

Built-in Editing Capability

Edit on your computer or on the spot. Download the audio file to your computer and edit with the Sound Forge Audio Studio LE software that comes with your recorder. Or use the Divide and Combine functions to edit as you record.

User-Friendly Operation

Set up menu access the way you need it, assigning frequently used features to the F1/F2 buttons. Home/Option buttons also simplify navigation.

Super Bit Mapping

Sony’s unique technology provides 20 bit levels of audio performance when recording 16 bits.

Dual Format Recording

Record in both PCM and MP3 simultaneously. Then email the MP3 while retaining the larger PCM file on your computer.

Wireless IR Remote Control

With two sensors on the IR receiver unit receiving signals from a wide range, it’s simple to use your remote to control recording from a distance. The easy-to-see LED lets you know when recording has stopped - especially useful in a dark room or concert hall.

Cross-Memory Recording

If the internal memory or remaining memory in the memory card runs out during recording, you’re covered—the PCM-D100 can automatically switch to the other memory device to continue recording seamlessly.

Multi-Choice Playback

Choose from a variety of playback modes, including DSD, FLAC, LPCM, MP3, WMA, and AAC-LC. Utilize playback features such as Up Sampling (PCM), Effects (PCM + MP3), Digital Pitch Control (PCM + MP3), and Key Control (PCM + MP3).
